To repeat, start at the top right and read the vertically-aligned Chinese text from top to bottom, moving leftward from column to column.
We can refer to any individual character by using its coordinates. E.g., the first character in the lesson 2 text is 性 (xìng), referenced as 1.1, i.e, column 1, character number 1, or "line one, first character". The fifth character in lesson 2 is 相 (xiāng), referenced as 2.2. In the lesson 2 text, the character 相 (xiāng) is found in two locations, 2.2. and 1.2. We can also prefix the lesson number to these character coordinates and thereby specifically reference any character in the set of ourLessons in Classical Chinese. So 2.1.2 would refer to "the second character in the first line of lesson two".
